Open to Change

So, a funny thing happened in the last 4 months.
My world totally changed.

I should have been more dedicated to posting throughout these changes, but it got hard to keep up.

One of the first changes was that I graduated from college. I finished all the papers, and the readings, and the all-nighters.
All the hours I spent in a dorm room, all the airsoft pellets I shot, all the moson muffins I ate, all the hours of 30 rock I watched, all the road trips I took, all the dance parties I hosted, all the accidental naps on the side of President's road, all the swiss cake rolls I ate culminated into the degree I received in the mail shortly after taking this photo.

The second change, and it was a big one, was that I got engaged. Ross has become my best friend over the last year and, on the exact one year anniversary of our first date he asked me to marry him.
I had come home from work that night and the two of us made a big dinner and ate together. Afterwards he took me to the exact snow cone stand, the exact park, the exact bench where we had our first date. We talked about how much we've grown and how many things had changed and how even though it is scary and weird, it was wonderful too.
Afterwards we went back to my apartment and sat on the couch. He reached in his pocket and pulled out a ring pop. He handed it to me and said, "you'd marry me if I got you a ring, right?"
I laughed and started to open the candy. The ring pop has always been a joke for us. But when I ripped the wrapper I saw that he had put a real diamond ring inside! He must've resealed the bag somehow. I was shocked, and I looked back at him in surprise, only to find him down on one knee!

The third change was that I got a job. I worked this summer for Cal Farley's Boy's Ranch, and I loved it. I was working mostly with middle school students and we would spend our days playing basketball, soccer, dodgeball, kickball, raquetball, wallyball, volleyball, trangleball, lacross and flag tag. We would go rock climbing, swimming, canoeing and kyaking. We built cardboard boats that went all the way across the lake and we ate like kings in the dining hall.
This job was fantastic but it was a double-edged sword. It meant that I was leaving my apartment at 6:45 in the morning and not returning until 6 in the evening. It was quite the drive. But it was worth it to see (from left) General Custard, Joe and Chandler paddle to victory. Unfortunately, the door closed for me to continue working there into the school year, but it was a great summer I won't forget.

Also, my best friend in the world got married! Robbie Byrd and Hungry John, as of July 1, 2011 became John and Robbie Whitfield! And although theirs was one of the greatest weddings ever, I did not get any pictures. I am also a terrible friend because I have nay, not even ONE picture of them together! We'll have to
settle for separates. But the pictures I found are vintage. The first photo is, I believe, the first photo of Robbie and I together at Beach Reach 2008.
And because I couldn't find the picture of John at Medi Park in 2008, we'll have to settle for John saving the day at the
U2 concert in 2009!

Needless to say, there has been a lot going on and a lot of getting used to new situations.
What an adventure!
But, there is one thing that is certain. Married people can still be totally rad. John and Robbie have proved that. I am excited about where all these changes are leading me, and I am going to try to accept all the new stuff with style.

I'm getting married at the end of the month. That's still sinking in. (I'm still just so excited that a boy likes me!) and this blog is going to go through some changes too. I'm not going to delete the this one, but the URL is abbeyjomartinkus.blogspot.com and that isn't going to be my name any more. So I'll be posting all new stuff on abbeyjohavens.blogspot.com.

I'm going to be starting a newly wed and grown-lady blog that is still PLENTY ridiculous, and full of what the Lord teaches me through everyday experiences, but I've gotta change the ol' Keep Your Knees Closed rule, because on September 30 the Married Lady is
OPEN.
FOR.
BUSINESS.

Change Happens.
I'm excited about it, even if it's uber weird.
